Research Interest Examining dissolution of calcite, siderite, dolomite using atomic force microscopy, vertical scanning interferometry coupled with Raman spectroscopy. Dissolution/surface kinetics of minerals ( soil and pure clay, and carbonate minerals) in flowthrough reactor experiments and vertical scanning interferometry experiments. Mineralogical characterization of soil and sediments, using various techniques including: transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning TEM, STEM combined with energy dispersive electron microscope, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, geochemical modeling using PHREEQC and Visual MINTEQ. Metal and metalloid ions sorption (chromium, arsenic) and redox transformation on siderite, iron oxides and phyllosilicate minerals. Sorption of contaminants (chromium, arsenic) by biosorbents and organo-clays in aqueous environments. Immobilization and detoxification of chromium in tannery wastewater and soils. Examining potassium (K) release in K-bearing soil minerals under environmentally relevant conditions.
